BioBeat’s Movers and Shakers in BioBusiness 2017: who’s driving scientific innovation?

Now in its fifth year, BioBeat is a collaborative innovation platform for business entrepreneurs and leaders in bioscience. BioBeat’s Movers and Shakers annual report demonstrates how talented women in biobusiness are driving innovation in life science. This year the report recognises 50 outstanding women leaders across five key translational themes: Great Science, Financial Enablers, Collaboration, Patient Impact, and Infrastructure Innovation. Below we focus on the report’s Great Science theme and find out about those women who have been making great scientific advances towards giving us a healthier world.

How do we step up biotech partnering to make greater impact on health and wealth? The Francis Crick Institute was delighted to host BioBeat17: Re-shaping biotech partnering on 16 November 2017. This half day event for scientists, entrepreneurs and investors explored strategies and opportunities for successful translation between academia and biotech.

Mentoring for global health

Urgency to improve global health. This was the over-riding mentoring need of life science entrepreneurs at the recent IECT Summer School on Entrepreneurship in the Austrian Tyrol. The life science delegates from Austria, Germany, Israel, Hong Kong, and the UK shared a strong commitment to deliver the best possible technology solutions to make the world healthier for us all.

Top Trends at BioBeat16: Stretching biotech pharma entrepreneurship

How do we nurture growth in the life science sector and ensure the UK is the best place to develop innovative patient therapies in these turbulent times? These are some of the questions that were discussed at the BioBeat16 summit, held on 16th November 2016 in Cambridge. Forbes: Report Celebrates Britain’s Female Life Science Entrepreneurs

Described by the UK government as “a jewel in the crown” of the economy, Britain’s life science sector boasts an annual turnover of £30bn and employs around 70,000 people across 380 companies. And in the government’s view – as laid out in its strategy for the sector – this is an industry where the UK can establish a leadership position, particularly in the emerging field of harnessing genomic data.

It’s also an industry where startups and early are expected to play an important role in driving innovation.

50 Movers and Shakers in BioBusiness October 2014

2014 saw the expansion of the BioBeat programme with the launch of the 50 Movers and Shakers in BioBusiness 2014 report. Leading in a Collaborative World was the topic at the annual autumn event in Cambridge. There were discussions about leading in a rapidly changing sector, multi‐disciplinary working and attitudes to risk in a world where organisations must manage the tension between collaboration and competition.

Disrupting the Status Quo in Bio

What does it take to be a leader in the biotechnology sector? At the UK Bioscience Forum, the ‘Game-changing Leaders’ panel session discussed the different attributes required to lead a company and how this evolves through the lifecycle of a business.
